I'm excited to share details about a significant project I was part of with the GDSC Junior Team: AGRI NOVA – An Intelligent System to Predict the Disease of an Affected Crop/Plant. This project applies the power of Artificial Intelligence to a critical challenge in agriculture: enabling farmers to easily and effectively predict diseases affecting their crops.

The Challenge: Supporting Farmers at Scale

In a country like India, where the farmer population is enormous, it's incredibly challenging for agricultural scientists to provide individual support to every farmer. Traditional methods of plant disease detection rely on visual symptoms and manual inspection, which are often time-consuming and subjective. This leads to delays in diagnosis and intervention, potentially devastating crop yields.

Our Solution: The Agri Nova Plant Disease Detection App

AGRI NOVA is an innovative Plant Disease Detection App that aims to revolutionize agriculture through the power of AI. Our mission is to provide an easy and effective way for farmers to predict crop diseases. The farmer simply needs to take a photograph of the diseased crop (specifically, the leaf) and upload it to the app.

How It Works

  • Image Upload: Farmers use their smartphones to upload images of plant leaves.
  • AI-Powered Detection: Our advanced Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model processes these images, extracting hierarchical features through convolutional and pooling layers to identify patterns associated with different plant diseases.
